Welcome!
My name is Amanda Boyer.
Professional Background:
This is my sixth year at St. James School and my fifth year in First Grade. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Eastern Illinois University and my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Lewis University. Before coming to St. James School, I had many unique opportunities to work with extraordinary students. For 2 years, I was a paraprofessional for students with severe and profound special needs at a school in Palos Heights. After leaving there to finish my teaching degree, I substitute taught for students of all grades. My passion to work with students has guided me to my current position at St. James School.
Classroom:
Positive reinforcement and encouragement are the main traits of my teaching style. I believe in providing a positive environment where students feel safe and comfortable to make mistakes and be successful. To encourage student creativity, I utilize group activities, technology and center work where students are given the opportunity to excel at an individualized pace. In my classroom, students are the center of every moment and have unlimited opportunities to shine.
Personal:
I am married to Matt, my high school sweetheart. He is also a teacher. We have been so blessed with 2 amazing little boys! I love spending time with my family and friends, playing sports and being active. I am also an avid reader that often is reading more than one book at a time.
I believe in giving back to those in need and making a difference. I regularly raise money for causes close to my heart including Cancer Research, Heart Health, St. Jude, and Special Olympics. Even further I've volunteered with the local Girl Scouts serving as a positive role model to young girls. Whether in the classroom, through tutoring, or outside connections, I hope to leave a lasting effect on the next generations.
